ATI All-in-Wonder HD Install Tips

Created February, 2009

Here's some tips on installing the ATI AIW HD. First, regardless of your OS, download the current drivers from the ATI website HERE for your operating system instead of the ones on the enclosed CD. Shutdown, then install the ATI AIW HD card in your PCI-e x16 slot, attach you coax TV feed from your antenna or cable to the RF port, then reboot. Run the previously downloaded driver setup file and again reboot.

If you are interested in the ATI Catalyst Media Center (CMC) application instead of using Microsoft Media Center, you will have to install it from the CD. Don't loose the CD because there is no other way to get the CMC online other than paying for a copy from ATI.

Once the drivers are installed, if you go to "Control Panel" then "Device Manager" then expand "Sound, video, and game controllers". You should see the last entry below:

FIGURE 1

This should verify the drivers were successfully installed.

NOTE: If you are installing on Win 7 beta, you may not see the "ATI" entry. See "Installing in Windows 7 beta Media Center" below for instructions to correct this.

If you are using Microsoft Media Center, here are some tips by OS:

Installing in MCE 2005

Once you have installed the AIW HD drivers from the ATI download Center, go into Media Center and setup the tuner. It should recognize both the analog and digital tuners. However it will think they are two separate tuner, so be careful about scheduling an analog and digital program to record at the same time. It won't work! The FM tuner should also work.

Installing in Vista Media Center

Vista will allow you to setup only one tuner, the analog or digital, but not both unless you use the Vista Hybrid Install Routine. You will need this routine if you plan to use the FM tuner, even if you don't plan to use the analog TV tuner. In Vista and MCE 2005, an analog tuner must be setup, even if it isn't used, for a FM tuner to work.

Installing in Windows 7 beta Media Center

Once you have installed the appropriate (32 or 64 bit) Vista AIW HD drivers from the ATI download Center, check for the ATI entry in Device Manager (see Figure 1 above). If it is not there, check for the following:

If the NTativlm61 entry is in "Other devices", double click on it.

Then click on the driver tab. Now click on update driver then "Search automatically for updated driver software". Win 7 should then download the correct driver and you will get the following message:

Now, if you go to "Control Panel" then "Device Manager" then expand "Sound, video, and game controllers". You should see the the last entry below:

At this point go into Media Center and setup the tuner. Make sure you have connected your over-the-air or cable input to the RF port first. If you are using cable, Win 7 Media Center will recognize both tuners, and you should see the following after it scans for TV signals:

At this point continue to setup both tuners. If you are using over-the air, it should also recognize both the analog and digital tuners. Be sure and setup the analog side so you can use the FM tuner.
