COMMENTS:
  • This is AverMedia's first dual digital tuner product. The card works great with Vista MCE as well as MCE 2005, although you will need an analog tuner for MCE 2005.

The white box edition is meant specifically for Microsoft Media Center since the Aver Media Center application does not work with the Duet.

This tuner is perfect for over the air and you won't need a cable splitter as the one RF connector provides signal to both tuners. The Duet also tunes cable ClearQAM stations, but you will need either the Vista 2008 Media Center Pack or Windows 7 for it to work with Media Center. ClearQAM is not supported under standard Vista Media Center or MCE 2005. There is also a AverMedia developed ClearQAM tool that works with Microsoft Media Center. Go here for more info.

NOTE: If using for ClearQAM, you will need an analog tuner to record or watch the cable analog stations. There is NO analog tuner on this device!

This is the lowest cost dual digital tuner on the market right now and my choice for the best bang for the buck.

NOTE: There are two versions of the Duet, the "White Box" version which does not have the AverMedia Media Center application included. If you are using Microsoft's Media Center as your application program, this is the version you'll want.

The retail version has the the Avermedia application that includes Picture-in-picture capabilty. You'll need this version if you are running standard XP.
