Full Review of the Vbox DTA-164e under Vista Media Center

Vista Media Center Test

Release level tested: RTM
Decoders used: Media Center Decoders (included w/Vista OS)
Encoders used: Kram MCEE (go here for more details)

Processor usage with both tuners recording and one being displayed
(Using System 1):
  • Both analog: 75-95%
  • Both digital: 75-95%
  • One each: 60-75%
  • NOTE: Test was run with the default Vista graphic drivers, not beta Vista ATI drivers

Analog quality:
  • The quality was basically the same as under MCE 2005

Configuration:
  • Both Analog: Works using Kram Drivers
  • Both Digital: Works without any extra drivers or modifications
  • One each: Works using install routine described here.
  • NOTE:The encoder routine at the end of the install will also need to be run.
  • Both tuners Digital and Analog: see "one each" above

Tuning
  • analog – stations received - all 19
  • digital – stations received - all but "magic" channel (see signal input section above). That channel displays intermittent frozen screens and some audio.

Comments:

Digital station tuning is inconsistent with the included drivers. Vbox has resolved this issue with the new drivers here.
