Windows 7 Media Center TV Frequently Asked Questions

Windows 7 has several new features for Media Center HDTV recording and viewing. But before we get into Q&A, just a quick overall view of Win 7. Microsoft finally put in the features and functionality that Vista should have had. You can even turn off that annoying UAC without the system screaming at you. This time we get useful functionality and options, not just eye candy and cute add-ons. On to FAQ’s:
Q. Is digital station numbering the same as in Vista and XP Media Center?A. No, now the channel numbers are like all other digital tuner devices, like 27.1, 5.3, etc. Gone is the old number scheme, like 1271 (for channel 27, sub-channel 1) found in Vista and XP Media Center 2005.

Q. Does the guide now find all the sub-channels?A. Yes, unlike the old guide which listed only sub-channel “.1” , Win 7 Media Center will now find them all. I have one station that has 5 sub-channels and all are listed. Q. Does it record shows in the standard Media Center DVR-MS format used by Vista and XP?
A. No, there is a new format is called .wtv and these files will NOT play on a XP or Vista Media Center. However the old DVR-MS files will play on Win 7 Media Center. Q. Is clearQAM (digital cable) supported?

Q. Can I still use the
Hybrid/KRAM Routine

A. Yes, with the
